Coalition Submitting More Than 350,000 Signatures to Cap the Rate and Raise the Wage

Faith leaders, workers, community leaders and representatives of Missourians for Responsible Lending and Give Missourians a Raise will submit more than 350,000 signatures to the Secretary of State today, Sunday, May 6 at 3 p.m.  Upon certification, these signatures will allow Missourians to vote on measures to cap the rate on predatory loans and raise Missouri’s minimum wage on the November ballot.

PoliticMO -- The office was buzzing Sunday afternoon awaiting the arrival of new signatures.

When the office closed at 5:00 p.m., signatures had been filed for the following petitions: Amending the constitution to allow for municipal control of the St. Louis police department; increasing Missouri’s cigarette tax to 90 cents; capping annual interest rates, finance charges and fees on payday loans at 36 percent; and raising Missouri’s minimum wage to $8.25.
